Flithy Rudd and Dirty Coppers

Well it's been a few drinks between posts at the Stump for which we make no excuses. The fact is a lot has been going on of late, some good and some bloody awful.
Still not much has changed, hardliners in Indonesia still carry on like pork chops driven and controlled by various shadows. Corruption is still rampant with the Police Chief very concerned about who released the information that any number of Police Generals have literally untold millions of dollars in their dodgy bank accounts. In a normal world outside of bizarro land, you would think the investigation would focus on how the nasty ones got their greasy hands on so much cash..but nagh! 
Meanwhile, the Police in an effort to prove their morality and super crime detection skills detained a B grade Singer and his somewhat attractive girlfriend for filming themselves having sex. Not bad quality, if the Stump may adopt the film critic mode for a moment but lacking plot development. Of course, why the police are so interested in someone's private sex lives speaks volumes about their priorities or lack of them.
Speaking of Police Chief’s one of the cheeky buggers, had the gall to say he never took funds from anyone. Which the Stump knows from personal experience is a blatant LIE, every couple of years the Stump is involved in some rather large community activities for the good of the local people. Each and every time such activities are planned, the budget must contain a significant amount of cash for “Operational Fees” or the permits required are not approved. Seriously, who do they think believes them?

Meanwhile, as was predicted on the Stump over 12 months ago, the serial fraud and the worst Prime Minister (K Rudd) in Australia's History was given the right royal boot by his own party and left friendless with his reputation in tatters.
The mantle of Prime Minister has fallen a Ms Julia Gillard, Australia's first female (to be confirmed)Prime Minister. Famous for her earlobes, the worldest longest nose on a political figure and intimate connections to a litany of failed policies over the past two years, the Australian Labor Party has inexplicably chosen her to lead them to the Federal Election in August this year. Meanwhile a intensive search is on for other Labor Party Ministers who have gone missing after stunning policy failure, some of which actually cost lives. A reward is out for MP Peter "The Home Insulation Policy is a Success not matter who many people scam it and how many untrained people it kills" Garrat. Also keep your eye out for MP Penny "What the hell happened to the ETS and greatest moral challenge of our time, I don't want to go back to just being a lesbian with a chinese name" Wong.

And in the interests of the upcoming election..

For those of you who have never travelled to the Australia and for those Australian's (?) who have never ventured out of the city cattle guards (grids) are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways). The purpose is to prevent cattle from crossing over that area. For some reason the cattle will not step on the "guards," probably because they fear getting their feet caught between the rails.

A few months ago, Kevin Rudd received and was reading a report that there were over 10,000 cattle guards in NSW & Queensland. Graziers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, so he ordered the Minister to fire half of the “cattle” guards immediately!!

Before the Minister could respond and presumably try to straighten him out, Minister for Employment Julia Gillard, intervened with a request that…. before any “cattle” guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining.

Ignoring the diverse and rich cultures that comprise Indonesia, the Indonesian Constitutional Court has somehow upheld the intolerant, bizarre and insidious Pornography Law. Indonesia’s stuffed shirts and intolerant loons can now go about their business of harassing women with the full weight of law. Seems some will not be happy until one half of the population is dressed like oversize shuttlecocks.

It is worth reviewing the simply and subjective description of what constitutes porn according to Indonesia's lawmakers.

Porn: Pictures, sketches, illustrations, photographs, articles, sounds, voices, moving pictures, animations, cartoons, conversations, body movements, or other forms of messages through various communication mediums and/or public displays, that contain obscenity or sexual exploitation that violates community norms.

Pretty much gives any self appointed ,nutcase a license to harass doesn’t it?
The “community norms” bit is laughable. Community norms where Bali, Papua, Kalimantan, Sulawesi? Unfortunately, the law is classic example how far the Jakarta/Java centric pressure groups have hijacked the law making process at the expense of greater Indonesia.

In upbeat news, Bali Governor Made Pastika has responded by refusing to enforce the law as he states, quite correctly law does not "suit the regions socio-psychological elements" One has to wonder what this means in the wider political picture in such a diverse nation.

"FIJI'S military leader says his country may quit the Commonwealth altogether due to pressure from the international organisation to call elections, a report says.

The Stump has copped some flak about the Green Stump credentials over the past couple of years, primarily because the Stump would not jump in the great cess-pool of distorted facts that made up the “settled” science of Climate Change/Global Warming/Cooling. It has been fun watching as Public Opinion shifts with the sheer weight on bulldust hoisted on the long suffering taxpayers exposed as it always would be. The Stump cannot keep up with the sheer number of fraudulent claims uncovered everyday as more and more people awaken from their Jonestown like stupor.

The rabids that previously started frothing at the mouth at the merest suggestion that Climate Change was really just code for Global Scam and daring to question the rank gospel of green are vanishing faster than Bali Tiger. It is becoming almost impossible to find a loud mouth global climate wanker these days and backpedalling is to become a Olympic Medal Sport.

To the relief of the sane, the endless underfed minions of Gore have climbed back inside their mossy and rank soap boxes (organic soap of course) to ponder what could have been in a socialist green world with no people. While the "unassailable facts" from the book of Gore and the high church of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)are looking a very sickening colour of puke rather than green.

The country of Haiti is suffering after an earthquake of devastating proportions and we are, as so often is the case witnessing the very worst and very best of human behaviour.

It is always curious to see at times like these, the very people crying out for the downfall of the USA and the “West” in general now screaming out to for the USA to please help. The USA being what she is, of course answers the call again providing the lion's share of aid and support.

One cannot but think what kind of sad world we would live in if we had to
rely on the likes of China, the Middle East and South America for humanitarian aid.

As for the carping, mindless USA/West criticism from the morally moribund left, the Stump looks forward to the day when the USA sends the bill for the Aid to the EU and UN. After all, didn’t we decide that unilateral action by a super power was a sin beyond redemption.

A NON POST

Sorry the Stump has been indisposed of late but we have some big wins and a few small loses but overall in front. Posting will be few n far between over the next few weeks as we scuttle off to the sunburnt country for a bit of R&R after a hectic Christmas and New Year working.
Meanwhile a few of highlights that have made us laugh, cry and shake our heads.

• The outstanding performance of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati when questioned by the terminally ignorant. Never has one person displayed such accurate feelings of contempt and distain for the parasites that have nerve to suggest they represent the people in Indonesia. Oh if only she ran for President!

• Islam took another set of body blows with a bunch of ignorant cavemen claiming the sole right to use the word Allah in Malaysia and burning churches to boot. Considering the word is primarily used by Christians in Malaysian “Borneo”, perhaps these knuckle heads should be a bit more polite considering they are only late comer guests.

• Meanwhile yet another self proclaimed representative of Allah and cleric declared it wasn’t him that raped a 15 year old girl but his pet genie!

• The UN confessed that “THE peak UN body on climate change has been dealt another humiliating blow to its credibility after it was revealed a central claim of one of its benchmark reports - that most of the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035 because of global warming - was based on a "speculative" claim by an obscure Indian scientist”…. “Mr Hasnain, who was then the chairman of the International Commission on Snow and Ice's working group on Himalayan glaciology, has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research.”

Well the grand meeting fully sponsored by the long suffering taxpayers of the world has ended in abject failure.

Copenhagen where assorted world leaders, dictators, NGO’s and any number of fringe loonies and tens of thousands of assorted “hangers on” literally burnt millions upon millions of dollars. In an oh so predictable and futile attempt to come to an agreement on what to do about climate change we witnessed waste on scale that boggles the mind.

Of course, what any self respecting voter in a democracy should be asking is what on earth were their elected representative s doing at meeting that started with despots like Mugabe the murderous tyrant of Zimbabwe and the socialist loon of Venezuela President Hugo Chávez hectoring and lecturing various democracies on how they should behave in providing for their people? It would be funny in a Monty Pythonish way, if we weren’t funding these murderous loons and people dying because of it. Of course, they all had their hands out for free cash with no accountability. Does anyone really think that any money sent to Mugabe and his blood soaked henchmen would really reach any environmental program????

Closer to home, a young lass from Fiji delivered a heartfelt, stirring speech imploring world leaders do something so her children and her countries children have a future in 2050 and before her island is swamped under raising seas. Of course, no one has pointed out to the poor lass that since 1992 the average tidal rise in Fiji has been 5.3mm a year, much of which may well be attributed to uncontrolled removal of ground water and tectonic plate movement. Even if absolutely due to Climate Change, she is looking at about a 26 cm rise by the year 2050. The population is not going to be standing waste deep in water particularly on the main island (home to 70% of the population) where Mountains rise to over 1324m. Perhaps Fiji should send money to England where the highest mountain is 978m, seems much more at risk. Naturally, nothing was said about the future of Fiji’s children living under a military regime after an illegal coup.

Even closer to home, the nonsense took on gigantic proportions with the Mayor of Jakarta (and his assorted hangers on) declaring that Jakarta was a green city. A description that defies belief and left those trapped in environmental disaster called Jakarta choking even more than usual. Meanwhile the Indonesian President announced Carbon Reduction targets that were simply breath taking in their scope and time frames. We all awaiting with eager anticipation of the forest protection policies that will produce such result, to save us being cynical someone could point to just one government sponsored environmental program that has produced verifiable, and accountable results.

Now perhaps the nonsense is over, real people can get back to doing something for the environment.

Fortunately, the Stump resides in a relatively stable and tolerant (for Indonesia) part of the world and Religious Hard Liners of all descriptions are kept fairly much under control. Trouble with the religious nutters they tend to ruin the feeling of Christmas if you let them.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Seems Indonesia is intent on continuing it's reign as a champion of incompetence and an international laughing stock in the field of public transportation and public safety.

"AN Indonesian court has overturned a pilot's criminal negligence conviction for crashing at Yogyakarta airport in March 2007, killing 21 people, including five Australians.
Komar said at his trial that faulty wing flaps were to blame for the jet's excessive airspeed as it came in to land."

"A report by an Indonesian safety committee, however, found that Komar had ignored 15 automatic warnings telling him he was coming in too fast".

That’s right not one, not two but 15 warnings. Anyone who has heard the alleged cockpit recordings and the voice of his co-pilot would be simply be stunned at the that fact this man has ever been allowed to see the light of day again, let alone had his verdict overturned.

In a mindboggling statement at the time of the first verdict, a Stephanus Gerrardus, chief of the Garuda Pilots' Association, said Komar's trial was "a mess" and it had set a dangerous precedent of criminalising pilots.

"Our main concern is this decision could actually disturb aviation safety," he said. (Idiot, The plane crashed after the pilot ignored 15 warning signals and people died, what does it take to disturb this complacency towards a professional’s responsibility to others?)

"Imagine how hard it would be for a pilot to perform his duty when he's burdened with something like this. (Something like what, actually getting the passengers safely to their destination?)

"It makes pilots doubtful, and could lead to mistakes. (After ignoring 15 WARNING SIGNALS and killing 21 people, one wonders how many more mistakes a pilot could fit into one flight?)

Not that anyone should really be surprised, the public safety and well being of others is not a issue in Indonesia and the lives of the great unwashed have no value. Despite a litany of ferry disasters, any regular traveler will tell you that these floating (sinking) accidents waiting to happen continue to sail with inadequate or more often non-existent safety equipment, over loaded and crews with little or no training.

The joke that is the public rail service suffers almost weekly derailments, level crossing deaths and major equipment failures and it is not unreasonable to suggest that in 60 years of independence that only thing Indonesia has done is to run an effective rail system built by the Dutch into a traveling death trap (interesting and sad to note there is now 50% less rail service than under Dutch rule).

Whilst within the inner city, the smog belching, rusted out, multi patched, filthy pieces boxes on wheels that are Indonesia’s excuse for a bus service are a daily reminder that those who can pay never have to worry about roadworthy or public safety inspections. It’s sometime ironic watching these death traps carry signs or protesters to anti-corruption rallies when the transportation industry is a living, belching example of money over public safety.

AND YET THE PROVEN IN THE BLOOD OF OTHERS, INEPT POWERS THAT BE STILL WANT TO BUILD A NUCLEAR POWER STATION IN INDONESIA...Where running a bus or ferry service is beyond the compentence of public officials to ensure the most basic safety standards are enforced. Insanity does not cover the concept well enough.

What a public official scam Copenhagan is turning out to be, although no surprise to anyone not taken in by pretty little pie charts presented by shallow, chubby idiots. Wouldn’t we all love to know the actual total cost of this pointless little gabfest?

Australia’s effort alone was 114 official trough feeders and you can bet there is any number of “unofficial “ sons, wives and lovers of the trough feeders who will find their way onto the public teat before the bills are paid.

One wonders what how much actual good could be done for the environment if the money wasted here (wanna bet there is no change out of 20 million dollars) was actually spent on ..mmm..say the salinity problems of the River Murray? Of course, that would mean no free for all on the public teat to arrive at an outcome that under any conditions will make NO DIFFERENCE to the environment.

A provisional list published in The Australian today contains the names and details of 114 Australian representatives, compared with just 71 for the United Kingdom.
Mr Rudd did not dispute the reported number, saying officials from the state and territory governments were part of Australia's delegation.

He claimed the Australian delegation was larger than the British contingent because the UK did not have state governments.No just ten times the population…truly a disgusting spin merchant) “We extend an invitation to (officials at the state level) and they come,” Mr Rudd told Fairfax Radio today.

But the provisional list contains details of only 14 representatives of state government, plus one delegate from the Australian Local Government Association. (Lair lair, pants on fire! This Prime Minister will go down as one the greatest lairs and shallow spin merchants in the history of Australia).

ETS - A NEW DYNAMIC

Interesting times perhaps better described as an awakening and in the case of the patronising acolytes of the Australian Church of Emissions Trading a very rude awakening. Unable to articulate and or quantify how many parts per million of Carbon reduction the proposed Emission Trading Scheme would actually produce, it became evident to all but the rabids that the ETS was nothing but a very expensive, poorly formulated Tax on the people who can least afford it.

The ETS was never anything but a gesture and there is nothing wrong with gestures unless they are hurtful, economy destroying, cost thousands of jobs and solely intended to stifle debate. The previous sentence pretty much describes the flawed plan that was so ineptly proposed by Australian Prime Minister Rudd, Environment Minister, Penny Wong and her faltering lap dog, the aging mediocre rocker whom we all thought had thankfully left the public view forever.

The ETS pundits seem to think that the Australian Public would not realise that Australia already pays some of the highest environment taxes in the world. Under the misnomer of Parity pricing, Australians pay 70% more for fuel than what it costs to deliver, an abundance of coal, based on the normal market forces of supply and demand should allow some of the cheapest power in the world, instead the inverse is true. Yet despite all this, the socialist reformers wish to foist upon the Australian Public, yet another massive pollution (?) and environment tax that would not contribute one thing to the Australian or World Environment condition. In fact it is doubtful if one red cent of the money of this unjustified and evil tax would have been spent in Australia or on Australians.

Unfortunately Malcolm Turnbull, the "interim" opposition leader in Australian Politics bought into this charade to the dismay of millions of disenchanted Australians. This social climbing lawyer, was no doubt driven by the "oh ahs" of the doctor’s wives electorate he represents. Malcolm, like his electorate has never known the hard scramble nor had to survive pay check to pay check existence, so a new tax for misplaced guilt is no issue. Bad luck for him the rest of Australia has revolted against this litany of lies and his just rewards for the betrayal was to be tossed out on his rather shiny rear end.

Tony Abbot has now been elected to the position of Liberal (Opposition) Leader significantly changing the political dynamic in Australia. Whilst the Stump does not agree with all of Abbots positions, there is no doubt Australians for the first time in years can choose between self seeking, shallow spin merchants and real bloke. The Stump believes the likes of Rudd and co are in for a real fight now.

CLIMATE CHANGE ECONOMY

Economist and Reserve Bank of Australia board member Warwick McKibbin warns the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is "fundamentally unstable", the price of permits will be "inherently volatile" and the Copenhagen agenda is in "total disarray". "The political fallout from this is going to lead to changes," he says.

For geographical and political reasons, Australia does not have the hydro or nuclear alternatives to replace coal-fired baseload electricity. That makes it more costly for us to cut emissions compared with the US, Europe and Japan. That increases the risk of "leakage" of our carbon-intensive industries offshore to developing economies, such as China, where emissions restrictions are less stringent.

'Id-ul-Adha' is almost amongst us again here in Indonesia. This of course is the ritual slaying of animals in often cruel and unusual ways. Suddenly everyman jack (Abdul)is a qualified butcher and dresser of meat.

Id-ul-Adha is also one of weirder religious celebrations, essentially drawn from the story of the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to Allah. Allah being the merciful (?) bloke that he is reputed to be (despite the floods, fires and earthquakes) sends an Angel at the last minute who tells Ibrahim that he can swap the killing of the child for the blood of an animal. The bible has a similar story with just enough changes to avoid copyright issues.

Now no-one really explains how the child felt about this nor how terrifying a child qualifies as a merciful God but the cynic in Stump can just imagine the conversation a couple of months later:

INDONESIA'S censors have formed a special team to decide whether to allow the politically sensitive Australian movie about the Balibo Five to be shown in the country.

The Indonesian government has declared Robert Connolly's Balibo "offensive'' and the Indonesian military has urged the country's censorship board, the LSF, to ban it.

The movie depicts Indonesian soldiers brutally murdering five Australia-based newsmen in the East Timor border town in 1975.

The movie, which is in the running for 14 AFI awards, contradicts the official Indonesian explanation they were killed in crossfire.

But the organisers of the Jakarta International Film Festival (JIFF), which kicks off next month, want to show the movie despite the possible controversy it could generate.

The have submitted the movie to the LSF, which has formed a special team to decide whether the thriller is too politically sensitive for Indonesian audiences.

The LSF prevented the JIFF screening several films about East Timor in 2006 because of similar concerns. But organisers are optimistic Balibo will be approved.

The film's release in Australia earlier this year came just weeks before federal police announced they would conduct a formal war crimes investigation into the Balibo killings, a move that sparked some diplomatic tensions.

The probe follows a 2007 coronial inquest that concluded Indonesian deliberately killed the journalists to cover up their invasion of East Timor.

AN Indonesian provincial governor has refused to allow an Australian customs vessel to unload 78 Sri Lankan asylum-seekers, saying Indonesia is not a "dumping ground" for refugees.
Indonesia agreed to take the Sri Lankans on humanitarian grounds after their boat ran into trouble off Sumatra island last week en route to Australia.

They were rescued by the Australian navy and transferred to the Oceanic Viking, an Australian customs boat, which was to deliver them back to Indonesia for refugee processing.

Initially scheduled to unload its human cargo at Merak, western Java, last week, it was diverted for unknown reasons about 900km north to the Riau Islands port of Kijang.

But Riau Islands Governor Ismeth Abdullah said he had no instructions to accept the migrants.

“We ban the Australian vessel carrying 78 Sri Lankan migrants from coming ashore at Kijang port. We order the navy and the police to enforce this,” he said.

“Unless there's an order from the president, the ship cannot come ashore. We're not a dumping ground for other countries.”

The Oceanic Viking has been anchored off Kijang, on Bintan island opposite Singapore, for more than a day accompanied by an Indonesian navy warship.

Indonesian officials from various departments have been unable to explain why the Sri Lankans have not disembarked.

The delivery of the migrants is the first test of a new “framework agreement” between Canberra and Jakarta on handling asylum seekers.

The sketchy deal was announced last week after a meeting between Kevin Rudd and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta, amid an upsurge in unlawful boat arrivals in northern Australia.

However, Steven Smith has always impressed the Stump as an articulate, extremely intelligent individual which made his comments that he believed (paraphrased) that “Illegal Immigrants would be treated in a humane and civilised fashion within the proposed Indonesian Detention Centres to be run on behalf of the Australian people” even more repugnant.

It beggars belief that an Australian Foreign Minister would not know the conditions of Indonesian places of internment and the low priority placed on human rights and human dignity in the nation. To believe that mindset would change in a Detention Centre funded by Australia but managed by Indonesia makes Smith a unmitigated, immoral Liar or the person of such naive optimism he is not fit to hold a position such importance to Australia’s welfare.

Let there be no misunderstanding, the Stump is a strong supporter of absolute border protection and believes that a major cause of Australia’s current social woes is the blind support for the utopian nonsense that all cultures are equal. Never the less, the Stump fully understands that people will always try to enter Australia both legally and illegally generally as economic refugees. Obviously, these illegal immigrants need to be detained, reviewed and in the vast majority of cases returned to their places of origin. It is not and never was Australia’s role to be the guardian angel of the world.

However, all people need to be treated with respect and dignity. It is not unreasonable for a person to seek a better life for himself and his family. Therefore the process of detention and review should be conducted as quickly as possible in a place/s that provide decent accommodation, health care and security. A TOTAL of 78 Sri Lankan asylum-seekers on board an Australian Customs vessel were to be transferred today to an Indonesian detention centre where detainees yesterday claimed they were beaten and robbed by guards, and slept 20 to a room on mattresses on the floor with no airconditioning.

With arms outstretched through the bars of their first-floor dormitory, above a string of razor wire, a group of Afghans who have already spent seven months in the Tanjung Pinang immigration detention centre on the Indonesian island of Bintan said they had been treated like "animals" and pleaded for Australia to help them. The Oceanic Viking, carrying 78 asylum-seekers, including a sick 12-year-old girl, was today expected to arrive near the Australian-funded detention centre. The vessel was diverted to Indonesia after an agreement was thrashed out between Kevin Rudd and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Mr Rudd told ABC1's 7.30 Report on Thursday the asylum-seekers' treatment would be "balanced and humane and fair" unlike the previous government which "had kids behind razor wire".

But the detainees at the facility yesterday described a life of brutality instead of the freedom they had dreamed of attaining in Australia. Navad Hashimi, 20, from Kandahar province in Afghanistan, told The Australian of being locked in during the day and suffering night-time beatings.

"Sometimes the immigration people hit some of us during the night," he said.

The beatings are punishment for the latest in a series of escapes from the centre, Sayad Nadyr, 34, from Daykundi Province in Afghanistan, said from the window of his cell.

"There is trouble, one person escape two weeks ago. At night time they come in here and punish us."

Mr Nadyr said their money had been stolen after they were picked up about seven months ago. The group of men, one with his wife, are all from the Hazara minority in Afghanistan.

The stench grows ever higher on the Rudd’s opportunistic and foul plan to hand over illegal immigrants to Indonesia. It was reported today on ABC TV that the RUDD Government is offering tens of millions of dollars to Indonesia to set up detention centres for the housing and processing of illegal immigrants trying to make their way to Australia. Additionally, it would appear that Rudd is also offering a per diem (the term was bounty in old west) amount for every immigrant held.

Now we all recall Rudd referring to that those in dollars and profit as a result of human trafficking as “the vilest people on earth”. Perhaps someone can explain the difference in what RUDD and SBY are about to do. Dollars for bodies sounds like human trafficking to the Stump. It would certainly confirm the Stump opinion of the Rudd but we did (and do) have a higher opinion of the Indonesian President (SBY). One can only hope SBY strings the vile little creature along for awhile and then sends him and his bounty packing. Although unfortunately money talks loud in Indonesia.

Is the chattering left so morally blind they cannot see that the every establishment of Australian Funded detention centres is condemning people to a situation far far worse than anything the previous government had in place. For goodness sake, Indonesia record on Human Rights remains abysmal for its own people particularly when there is a dollar involved. Corruption remains one of the very few places in which Indonesia figures in the world top ten and to think this poorly conceived (although typical) plan can end in anything but human misery and pain is absolutely disgraceful.

The Indonesian Government must have showed unusual discretion by not laughing out loud as they signed the agreement and took the money never to be seen again.

So where are they??? The repugnant Left that is, not the Illegal immigrants.
Where are all the screaming latte left hordes that condemned John Howard and his Pacific Solution as a cruel solution to the illegal immigrant issue? Where are the screaming hordes that denounced Howard’s plan to house these Illegal Immigrants in Australian run and sponsored offshore camps. Where are the idiots who declared Howards policy as inhumane and lacking compassion? Are they seriously thinking that asking and trusting Indonesia to run these “camps” will be more humane?

Are humans the only species of the Animal Kingdom who so willingly migrate and find it acceptable to live on a cess pit? This of course makes an interesting counter point to the inane bleating of the developing countries as they juggle for position in the upcoming “grab for cash” climate change forums.

It’s endlessly amusing to watch how those nations previously trumpeting their advances and ancient civilisations are suddenly happy to declare themselves “developing” again once money is involved. Sadly this great concern for their own environment and the hand out mentality doesn’t seem to include actually getting off their collected polluted arses and do a modicum for themselves.

Say stop ravaging forests for the benefit of the known ½ dozen immoral bastards or perhaps a campaign to educate the people that treating the rivers that run through your city as a dumping ground for everything from plastic to offal is not the height of human intelligence.

Newly elected legislators, sleeping off their first visit to the trough?
The Stump is posting the above picture in the vain hope that it will become so widespread on the web that the people involved will become so humiliated they will crawl off back to their Kampungs where they belong.

The Stump doesn’t hold high opinions of politicians in any country but Indonesian pollies are simply mindboggling in their ability to amuse and disgust at the same time. It is a source of never ending wonder and occasional dismay when Indonesia is described as the Muslim world’s biggest democracy. Firstly the term “Muslim Democracy” instantly disrespects the millions of Indonesians who are not Muslims and have invested so much into making this nation what it is. Secondly, in a democracy, the legislators are in principle SUPPOSED to be responsible and answerable to the people who elected them. It could only be the most Arrack sozzled mind that would assume that is the case in Indonesia. In fact, in could be argued that that the only the sheer size of SBY’s (Indonesia’s President) win in the last election prevented a complete and bloody meltdown of what passes for democracy in Indonesia.

Back to the dark side, the Jakarta Post reported that over 60% of the newly elected legislators do not have a tax file number, although to be fair only 5% of the entire population has bothered to register with the tax office anyway. So essentially, 60 % of these trough feeders have never paid their way in society and now wish to hop on the tax payer gravy train. Principle, morality and honour are obviously fairly rubbery concepts for some.

Of course, this raises the question of who are the 5 % of honest people paying their way in this country?
Try the much maligned multi nationals, expats and Indonesians who actually care enough about Indonesia to give a stuff and ensure they pay their way. As for the rest of them, they are bludgers and parasites who need a swift kick up their leeching orifices.

Seems to the Stump, it’s not that difficult to gain majority compliance for NPWP despite the protests from inept government officials (is there another kind in this country?). Try perhaps a regulation where you cannot purchase a car, a motorbike or land without an ID Card and your NPWP (TAX FILE NUMBER). Surely if you have the money for one of those three items, it is a least reasonable to expect you to account for your tax burden to the state every year. Might be tricky getting the sleepy ones to stay awake long enough to enact the law but worth a try.

Don’t hold your breath though, we have more important things to worry about like Malaysia stealing songs and patterns that we stole first and sleeping off the effects of power without responsibility.

On the Wallaby

Been on the Wallaby for a few weeks hence the absence of silky prose and opinionated ramblings from the inner Stump. It’s good to be back sometimes in our haste and frustration at the daily trails of living in Indonesia we forget the simple joys that are available (to those with some means) that are available to us here in the land of disappearing forests.

Certainly it was a refreshing to land and read that another piece of evil has been removed from this world. For once the Stump hopes that there is an after life ready to judge those found wanting. The Stump of course refers to that collection of misbegotten molecules more commonly referred to as Noordin Top, the deranged criminal who was complicit in the death and maiming of so many Indonesians and others who was shot dead by Indonesian police earlier this month.

It is probably timely to ask what has Top and his ilk achieved in their lifetimes except misery and sadness. Certainly their vague goals of religious domination based on some perverse combination of personal delusion and self importance have failed as they always would. Yet there is certain sadness at such a waste of lives in a country so calling out for leaders and doers with charisma and determination. There is no doubt it takes an ability to connect with people (dysfunctional as those people may be) in order to convince them to throw away their own lives. One can only wonder what good could have been done in the community if these evil swine had chosen a path of building instead of being sick purveyors of misery and death in a country that sees far too much of both. It seems to the Stump that this period of History may well be remembered as Islam's darkest hour as people only even remember the extremes and evil that is done in the name of others.

Speaking of evil, if the Stump sees one more pathetic grab for ratings featuring how the families of these evil scum are suffering after the trash has been cleaned and sent to the great recycling bin in the sky, then be prepared for some projectile vomiting. How about some common decency and civic responsibility from the media barons, is that even possible? Instead of glorifying the rancid evil amongst us how about showing the wrecked lives left in the wake of their perverse, murderous grasps for relevance in a world that has rightly passed them by. Certainly, the rancids showed no compassion for the families of the common man whose lives they wrecked.

Now Stump needs to mull two questions..

1. Why if the police knew where Top was, did they have to kill him? Is there really a great conspiracy behind the rancids?
2. Why do all the rancid seem to come from Malaysia and yet there never seems to be much trouble there? Is the Malaysian Law Enforcement that much better that Indonesia?

GOLKAR DANCES - PEOPLE CRY

The Stump fancies himself as a bit of political pundit albeit one severely bruised by the Conservative party collapse in Australia and the USA. Although Australia’s conservative party leader (for want of a better term) Malcolm Turnbull only claim to fame is his infamous destruction of the Republican Debate in Australia a few years back. No one trusted him then and no one trusts him now.

Never the less, Indonesian Politics leaves any reasonable person like a pianist trapped in a flock of Galahs, hearing shed-loads of noise but unable discern any rhyme or reason from the shreechs of the preening plumaged parasites.

Golkar, the once dominant party of Suharto and still recognised as the vehicle of power and presence by the Indonesian elite and connected, was soundly thrashed and shellacked in the recent in Indonesia elections. Now as to be expected Golkar is undergoing a period of renewal, only in Indonesia this obviously means a period of back to the bad old days of money politics and connections. The much coveted Golkar Chairman's position is being pursued by (amazingly):

1. Aburizal Bakrie, The current (ok this always makes the Stump chuckle) Coordinating Minister for the People’s Welfare, at one time reputed to Indonesia’s richest man and rightly or wrongly forever linked to the Sidoarjo mudflow tragedy which left thousands homeless with little help on the horizon.

2. Hutomo “Tommy” Mandala Putra, the youngest son of former president Soeharto reportedly has an interest in teaming up with current politician Yuddy Chrisnandy. You all remember Tommy, he was the bloke convicted and sentenced in 2002 to fifteen years jail for paying a hitman to kill Syafiuddin Kartasasmita, a Supreme Court judge who had convicted him of graft. Other charges included illegal weapons possession and running from the law. Of course, justice was done the Indonesian way and he was released after serving four years (No wonder Corby is going insane).

3. The eldest daughter of former president Soeharto, Siti Hardiyanto Rukmana or Tutut is thinking about making a run for the prize as well. Tutut is rumoured (although this is disputed) to own the Citra Lamtoro Gung Group, with interests in more than 90 companies ranging from telecommunications to infrastructure, including tollway projects. On 19 February 19 of 2001, Siti Hardiyanti "Tutut" Rukmana was reportedly banned from leaving Indonesia due to corruption allegations for one year

It’s often an admirable trait not to be swayed by popular opinion but for a Political Party already demonstrably seriously on the nose with the people, it beggars belief that Golkar could honestly think this is anything but treating the Indonesian people with anything other than utter contempt.

Meanwhile other only in Indonesia moment was the outrageous and enormously amusing sight of the Nationalistic zombie rent a yobbos railing at the Malaysians for stealing a Balinese dance and using for Malaysian Tourism.

The irony of the copy centre of South East Asia complaining about copyright and intellectual property infringements was a truly precious moment. It became even more amusing when it turned out after a number of “nasty” official letters from the Indonesian Government to Malaysia that the said dance was purely the brainstorm of an advertising agency not even based in Malaysia...Ooops...is our face red...again. It’s also extremely problematic to for such a Java centric government to be claiming any kind of rights to a Balinese dance in the first place.
One can only marvel at the long suffering Indonesians who have to tolerate such fools day in and day out.

Still no one can say it’s not fun to watch.

For change in the Climate Change Discussion, let’s start by stating three facts that remain facts despite hockey stick graphs and rancid green hyperbole:

1. If Australia ceases CO2 emissions to ZERO then Australia will make ZERO change to World CO2 emission levels.

2. Governments do not create wealth, they merely redistribute (usually unfairly) the wealth efforts of others.

3. USA, Europe, Canada and Australia all have doubled their natural forest coverage over the last fifty years.

Yes, you read the first point right, ZERO for ZERO and yet to achieve this remarkable target Australians are going to be taxed an additional 12 Billion dollars at most conservative estimate. Oh don’t be dismayed to salve the pain of yet another piece of green inspired social lunacy, the taxes will be called and known by many tax payer funded names, carbon credits, concessions, cap and trade adjustments. However you can be sure, it will be the average bloke in the street (the one who still has a job) who will pay. The big electricity producer won’t be paying, he will claim his emission concession from the government, at the same time raising prices for a basic commodity to the man on the street .

However, in a very VERY pale imitation of the Stump’s writing heroes (Try PJ O’Rouke, The Melbourne Truth, Andrew Bolt) the stump reserves the right to call a worm a worm and spade a smelly, maggot ridden carcass.

Personally it is the Stumps “OPINION” that Indonesian Media is far too polite particularly when challenging obviously critically bizarre statements from public figures. Look at the repugnantly easy ride that the various conspiracy loons are getting in the aftermath of the bombing from some sections of the media. Don’t get it wrong, the Stump supports free speech even from loons but the media has an obligation to challenge these twits and make them look the fools they are. In fact, in a democracy the media has an obligation to be critical, questioning and hard arse, they are after all the front line of defence for the people. Jakarta Bomb - Not Terrorists Just Scum

Lost a friend yesterday in the Jakarta bombings, not a close friend but never the less a friend and a mate. The kind of bloke who was always happy to see you, no matter who you were or what you did. He was always willing walk away from whoever he was talking to or stop whatever he was doing just to say hello,nice to see you.

Unfailingly polite, he always greeted and treated everyone the same, from the girl serving the dinner to the Director of the largest firms in Indonesia. Never would you see the arrogant flick of the fingers for more service because he thought he was more important than the next bloke. A gentleman by any yardstick.

We last spoke whilst watching both Indonesian and Expatriate kids playing Australian Rules Football and he was planning to come and spend a few days over in the Stump’s side of the country, I guess that won’t happen now and that is our loss.
He will be mourned by many and his loss will be felt by many more people who will never knew he was responsible for so many good things that happened in their lives.

I never knew his religious beliefs as it never mattered but for the Stump his death at the hands of pig-ignorant cowards who cloak themselves under a religious death cult that offers nothing but pain and suffering to all, is a blight on all those who profess to be believers. The BS that the Silent majority does not share some of the guilt just doesn't wash, these babi offal don't exist in a vacuum without support, passive or otherwise.

What the change does mean is that anyone currently living in Australia and enjoying the Tax Exempt status on 90 plus day overseas assignments or on flexible short term overseas assignment, should seriously consider moving abroad after 1st July to become tax Non Resident rather than continuing to commute and be exposed to Australian tax. For those that traveled less than the 90 days there is no change to the previous treatment as they have been taxable in Australia throughout.

A BEER BUDGET

Well the budget is out and a bigger disaster than even the Stump had thought..Jeez..how many Whitlams in a century must a country endure. Certainly, it has place on hold the Stump's plan to return to the land of OZ.

Any country that provides higher welfare payments to Illegal Immigrants and Refugees than its does to its own retirees really needs to review its loyalty to the country. The Stump is not saying that Refugees should be supported here by the way, but just how many countries do you transit before a refugee becomes an economic tourist.

The will be a shed load of budget analysis over the next few days but to save time and as the first part of series of Oigalnomics here is the Labour Budget Breakdown.. Time for a beer!

Ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes under a Labor Government, it would go like this:

- The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

- The fifth would pay $1.

- The sixth would pay $3.

- The seventh would pay $7.

- The eighth would pay $12.

- The ninth would pay $18.

- The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers?

How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33.

But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. 'I only got one dollar out of the $20,' declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved one stinking dollar, too..

'It's unfair that he got ten times what I got!' 'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I only got two? The wealthy get all the breaks!' 'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half the bill!

The people who pay the highest taxes are also the ones who provide the most jobs and sustain the welfare. Attack people for being successful and reward the handout mentality, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Well it would appear the greatest beat-up since global warming and Al Gore’s disappearing islands has coughed its way into a common cold. The Stump is of course referring to the Mexican Swine Flu or MSF (The swine bit being particularly unfortunate for millions of pigs as the ignorant and uninformed slaughtered millions of pigs in the name of...stupid). One of the more interesting factoids that came out was a 1000 people a year die from bee stings in the USA, one can only imagine the reactions if MSF death count had approached anything like that. Damn they would have been shooting planes out of the sky.

Indonesia ever reliable, provided endless amusement in its reaction to MSF. The masked medical avengers were standing by at every other airport taking temperatures of international travellers by scan or manually depending on the size of the airport (well that was the official line). In accordance with government tradition the Stump’s recent travel at the height of the scare revealed the standard “Style over Substance”
Incident One..Jakarta International (?) Airport, International flight from Singapore is delayed and arrives after 10 pm. Sure enough there are the scanners, the beds, the signs demanding everyone is checked. The amusement, it’s after 10pm and all the health staff (?) have gone home. Maybe the virus cannot live after dark, a reverse vampire thing?

Incident Two.. A major regional airport is testing international passengers with those digital thermometers you place in the ear. Funnily enough the medical staff (?) were shocked when passengers refused to be checked as they had run out of the disposable plastic covers that go over the pointy bit to prevent person to person infection. Best comment heard in the line “If you try and put that thing in my ear again, you will be measuring the temperature of your small intestine”

The stunning bit was the so called medical staff could not understand the reluctance of people to have an unsterilized instrument that had been in 150 unwashed ears rammed into their heads.

Meanwhile we have senior government officials musing that the virus was USA germ warfare...a rib tickler and the flu bug cannot live it hot climates (which must be news to the Mexicans).

On other issues the head of the corruption commission in Indonesian is currently assisting police with a murder investigation. This is a beauty with sexy caddie girls, drive by murders and allegations of a frame up. The elected officials quickly held a meeting to decide what to do about this, after all you would assume the issue would be how to keep the corruption commission going and uncovering the rampant graft...Ha ha..You assumed wrong..they wanted to cancel all future and current investigations...as well they would, seeing the number of pollies have been caught with their nose in the trough, time to line up again boys heey!

Still on dopy politicians, the Australian Krudd Government hands down its first budget on Tuesday. This budget is guaranteed to place Australia in more debt than any other time in history. The last Labor government left the Australian Taxpayer with 100Billion dollar debt that took over ten years to pay off during unprecedented boom times. Tuesday’s budget is expected to show a debt of 60 Billion dollars (for 26 million people are you morons serious?). The latest piece of tripe from Treasurer (?) Swan is the current problem is all the fault of the Howard Government..yea right the one that left theses no hopers with with zero public debt, a substantial surplus - $22 billion - lower taxes, record low unemployment, and higher real wages. All Australia will get out of these morons is a 300Billion dollar debt. Already 60 Billion dollars in debt (That's 80 Billion dollars plus all up in less than 12 months...now name one significant infrastructure project or plan).

To those complete dropkicks who fell for the Krudd line of glitz at the last election, your grandchildren will thank you...NOT. British newspaper The Observer this month published prominently a story with a photograph of breaks in the Wilkins shelf.
"A huge ice shelf in the Antarctic is in the last stages of collapse and could break up within days in the latest sign of how global warming is thought to be changing the face of the planet," the story began.

Are they really suggesting that being able to download porn 10 times quicker is really an economic driver to the magnitude of the Snowy River Scheme? For those who may harbour such thoughts, let us refer you to moribund economies of countries (again) such as Korea, Japan and Singapore who despite having broadband to burn are literally in economic melt down.

Ok, anyone with an ounce a practical business experience (excluding the owners of www.hootersareus and computer geeks) will tell you that IT is not a economic driver, it is a cost. Once you get beyond the fairly simplistic, "hey let’s send an email", 95% of the rest of the IT community is all froth and bubble.

The Stump is an environmentalist and believes one of the great tragedies of is the criminal short term, opportunistic and criminal (morally and legally) exploitation of Indonesia’s forests and resources to the benefit of the very few.

However, the “Rabid Green” movement often has as much to answer for as do the stereotypical, greedy and malevolent “businessman”. Deliberation and wilful distortion of facts by the rancid greens for their 15 minutes of personal “I TOLD YOU SO” fame all too often distorts real efforts to manage our environment and the discredits the environmental effort as a whole.

Some immoral classics of the Feral Greens include:

The self important “NGO” movement more worried about it’s own exposure deliberately targeted a large miner (NEWMONT) in Indonesia with a litany of poorly research facts and figures ultimately proven false by any number of scientific tests. Unfortunately not before ruining the lives of thousands and completely ignoring the destruction and health risks created by a raft of illegal mining operations in the area. On why such a stand was taken, at best analysis the Stump believes it can be attributed to sheer arrogance and stupidity only because a more jaundice view would lead to far more sinister conclusions.

A recent panel of “Green” climate change scientists (???) from China recently accused Australia of environmental mismanagement and as a major contributor to the Climate Change. The image of China accusing anyone of acting irresponsibly in the world is a joke beyond compare yet we had the idiot green movement in Australia applauding these self righteous government cogs. How about China concentrates on little things like human rights in Tibet, Three Rivers Dam and make the air breathable in at least one city and then get back to the rest of us on how to look after the environment.

The recent attack on us “meat eaters” of the world with a early runner for the prize of the silly statement of the year “It takes 50,000L of water to produce one kilo of steak”. As someone who spent a good part of his early life on a bush property, I can pretty well assure you that on the figure is beyond silly (You do the math, 5000 head @ 3000Kilo x 50,000). We were not raising cattle on the Sydney Harbour here.

Of course, the Australian Minister for Plastic Bags, ex-singer from an extremely average band, Peter Garrett can always be counted on for commenting beyond his intelligence (which to be fair is anything beyond “Hows the weather?) Ice core drilling in the fast ice off Australia's Davis Station in East Antarctica by the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Co-Operative Research Centre shows that last year, the ice had a maximum thickness of 1.89m, its densest in 10 years. East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica and parts of it are cooling. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research report prepared for last week's meeting of Antarctic Treaty nations in Washington noted the South Pole had shown "significant cooling in recent decades".

Australian Antarctic Division glaciology program head Ian Allison said sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years had been more than offset by increases in the Ross Sea region, just one sector of east Antarctica.

Antarctica has 90 per cent of the Earth's ice and 80 per cent of its fresh water. If Antarctica Ice is growing then that would mean percentage wise, worse case Arctic Melt has what percentage effect on the world????

Oh and as parting shots. How many years is it now since Al Gore’s little home movie? The home movie had water lapping at city libraries within ten years and pacific islands disappearing? Can anyone name any?

The worst airline in South East Asia (bar none), the Mangy Roo is once again showing its sheer arrogance to the Australian Public it has systemically ripped off over the years.

The latest in the saga of this government protected dinosaur is the laying off hundreds of workers and off-shoring hundreds of other jobs whilst continuing to exist as a national joke at the travelling public's expense.

Now the Stump is a champion of free enterprise and the free market. However, the moment you stick your hand out for tax payer cash and exist in a protected market then you lose (or should) lose the right to out source Australian Jobs.

Nor should anyone feel sad for the mangy roo's woes! Travellers may recall how QANTAS ripped travellers off, year in year out with domestic travel until Virgin forced their way into the market. A story on it's own right is what what happens when socialist business models run amok and use the combined weight of government protection and shady airport access deals to ensure free enterprise start-ups fai.

Blaming the "crisis" for QANTAS's falling profitability is highest order fertilizer!

Perhaps the flowing rings a bell with travllers:

1. Using planes that the Wright brothers built.
2. Fares schedules that would make Ned Kelly blush.
3. Service that is more applicable in a Pysch Hospital than on a national airline (Sit down, shut up and maybe I will sling you some gruel).
4. A board of directors that has about as much knowledge about the airline industry as Kevin Rudd does to good governance.

I guess that was needed to fund all those government lobbists and other hangers on, too bad we have banned them from the lodge.

"A judge has refused to overturn a ruling that declared the arranged marriage of an eight-year-old girl to a 47-year-old man legal.

The Saudi Arabian judge, Sheikh Habib Habib, ruled that the girl's marriage to a friend of her father's was legal and binding.

CNN reported the child wife could file for divorce once she reached puberty.

A relative of the girl told CNN the judge first refused to annul the marriage last year but reconsidered the case upon the girl's mother's appeal.

The mother's lawyer argued the girl's father had arranged the marriage with his "close friend" to pay off a monetary debt.

The relative said the girl's mother, who is divorced from the father, would continue to seek to overturn the marriage.

SBY CLEANS UP

Well the first round of the Indonesian Elections are over and it appears the Democrat Party (Current President SBY’s party) has done exceptionally well. It fact the “Dems” are sitting at about 20% of the vote well ahead of the nearest rival Golkar (the party of Suharto) at 14%.

Interestingly, if the “Dems” can garner 25% of the vote then they would be able to nominate a Presidential Candidate in their own right. Meanwhile China must be rueing the day they chose him as their Manchurian Candidate with his absolute lack of influence on the international stage. (Had to love the recent interview in the USA where the Krudd mentioned China 20 times and Australia 6..mmmm)

Those utlimately responsible for the welfare of the people bizarrely flocked to the site of their latest abject failure for photo opportunities. Srange creatures indeed!

Reportedly (and based on previous experience, probably accurate) no effective maintenance has been conducted on the dam since the days of the Dutch, yet one piece of government plankton had the nerve to refer to the incident as a “natural disaster”. Natural disaster my great aunts fat arse unless you mean it’s natural to ignore the safety of the people you are supposed to representing as you nose around the trough in search of yet another unearned dollar.

The sheer nerve of Indonesia’s political elite to turn up at the site of such misery and promise aid and assistance after years of neglect lead to this situation is astounding but unfortunately all too common. It is noted this occurred in the same area they had funds to hire people to conduct raids and arrest women deemed “unescorted” but apparently no funs to inspect dam walls?

Speaking a sheer effrontery, the world’s smallest Vice Prez managed to creep the stump out again. Been a busy week at the Stump as we are lucky enough to control (like to say own but that’s a subjective point in Indonesia) a nice corner block. At last count 23 different political posters and banners have been consigned to the weekly bonfire (consider it our contribution to global warming).

Thinking of running a sweep on the time between removing the eyesore from private property until some ignorant flog bag decides to desecrate our private property again. Was a hoot yesterday, sat on the porch for two hours drinking a nice cold beer watching these industrious little beavers erect a huge monument to some potential thief’s ego. The look on their faces and howls of protest was music to our ears as the moment they finished we calmly walked down, picked up our prepositioned tools of destruction and produce another 30 minutes of fire food.
NB. The stump probably wouldn’t recommend this course of action unless you are sure about the strength in numbers . People do tend to get a little hot under the collar.

Meanwhile more pieces of filth have been charged in Kalimantan for corruption, in this case stealing millions from funds meant for the poor. Well seeing how Kalimantan (One of the richest, if not the richest province in Indonesia) had a number of children die of malnutrition and neglect over the last 12 months, the stump thinks if justice was fair these filth would be charged with murder not corruption

Late in the evening the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk.

The man stumbled around the car park for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five vehicles. The man managed to find his car, which he fell into. He was there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine dry night). Then flicked the indicators on, then off, tooted the horn and then switched on the lights.

He moved the vehicle forward a few cm, reversed a little and then remained stationary for a few more minutes as some more vehicles left.
At last he pulled out of the car park and started to drive slowly down the road.
The Police officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over and carried out a random breathalyser test.

To his amazement the breathalyser indicated no evidence of the man's intoxication.

The Police officer said "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the Police station - this breathalyser equipment must be broken."

Now the worst of the Bushfires are hopefully over in Australia, the ugly and depressing task of counting the costs must begin.

One issue that is becoming apparent and is bound to create controversy is the role irresponsible but politically correct green policies played in the disaster.

Not surprisingly the infant idiot Prime Minister of Australia, Master Tintin Krudd has managed to turn a multi–billion dollar surplus into multi-billion dollar deficit. Although irresponsible welfare economics is a Australian Labor Party tradition, Master Krudd looks set to break a Labor Party personal best and eclipse the historical giant of economic mismanagement Gough (My wife can kickstart Jumbo jets) Whitlam.

The Krudd is a “social democrat” who hates “neo-liberalism” (WTF is that?) who wants a “new contract for the future” that makes “the role of the state . . . fundamental in the economy”..(scary little lunatic).

Anyway when the Krudd and Krudettes finally woke up there was something serious going on. With maximum fanfare and minimal substance the Kruddettes put down their earwax eating utensils and leapt into a stimulus (?) package granting free cash, pink home insultation batts and computer games to all and sundry. Strangely enough, this didn't stimulate anything or anyone expect for Joan the single mom with five kids to four fathers.

Contrary to the belief of the raving leftists and welfare troughers governments do not make money they merely distribute other people’s earnings, someone, sometime, somewhere has to pay the piper. You keep sapping the ones generating the wealth, then one day the reality hits home there is no more and gee the country goes broke and gravy train stops.

This is exactly what has happened the world over, at one end you have the parasite mutant accountants and bank bosses playing games with money other people have earned with their sweat and tears and at the other end you have the serial unemployed with any number of the life-long professional students, greenies and lefties that plague any western, free nation like life sapping tapeworms squirming in orgasmic delight at their weekly free feed. Trouble is the ever shrinking pool of people actually creating real wealth have had a gutful (pun intended).

So what was some other classics of the mighty “Stimulus” package from the House of Krudd..

Increased First Home buyers grant to $25,000 (To which one mullet, complete with the three screaming kids hanging on the hip) stated on tv, “Now I can afford to purchase my own home because we did not have enough for the deposit before ”.... No you can’t plankton! If you cannot save the deposit, you sure as sh*T cannot afford a mortgage, perhaps some condoms might be a plan.

A multi-million dollar program on pushing a “Bill of Rights (You know, like Zimbabwe has) and religious tolerance (Would it not be cheaper just to issue one way tickets to Palestine for moronic, stone age Imams who declare uncovered women “pieces of meat” and it’s “ok for husbands to rape their wives”). Give them something real to whinge about.

Sling a gad zillion dollars into greenie dreaming pink insulation bats and direct cash for the no-hopers to spend on booze and computer games

Yup..that’ll get the economy going , only trouble it hasn’ t and won't..lets recap..

In November, KRuddY said that $10.4 billion would “help to create up to 75,000 additional jobs over the coming year”. ….NOPE

Again in November: “Today the governments of Australia . . . have agreed on a $15.1 billion package to create 133,000 jobs to stimulate the economy.” Nope..

Now anywhere did we hear of plan to create opportunities for those people and companies that actually create wealth. Perhaps an Ord River or Snowy Mountains Scheme, or perhaps new ports? Maybesomething as simple as changing all of Australia’s rail to the same gauge (jeez what a no brainer)? How about a line of reservoirs (and to hell with the greenies in the driest country in the world have the serial stupids to complain about water catchment) to supplement the now dry River Murray?

Did we hear of any such plan..nope..but what did you expect after listening to inbred latte draftness that came out of the 20-20 vision summit for Australia, paid for by..you guess it ..this bloke:

A Boss Who Tells It Like It Is

To All My Valued Employees,

There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job; however, is the changing political landscape in this country.

However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interests.

First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Subaru Outback outside. You've seen my big home at last year's Christmas party. I'm sure all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealised thoughts about my life.

However, what you don't see is the back story.

I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 2 bedroom flat for 3 years. My entire living area was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of baked beans, stew and soup because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a wonky transmission. I didn't have time to go out with women. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50,000 a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the David Jones for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Subaru, the vacations... you never realise the back story and the sacrifices I've made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their pay suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.

Yes, business ownership has its benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.

Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire an accountant to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a cheque to the Australian tax Office for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" cheque was? Zero. Zip. Zilch.

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare cheque? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.

The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your pay you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.

Here is what many of you don't understand .... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had the government suddenly mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Canberra black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of Australia and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. But the power brokers in Canberra believe the poor of Australia are the essential drivers of the Australian economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.

So where am I going with all this?

It's quite simple.

If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your 4WD and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.

Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalises the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of politicians that swept through this country and changed its financial landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about....

It never ceases to amaze the Stump that even in the cosmopolitan (?) heart of Jakarta, the local populace has this filthy but seemingly irresistible need to share their latest virus with you, coughing all over fellow travellers and hawking up grab gobs of pus and flem in the street. Guys, it’s not exactly a mind bending concept to show some consideration to others!

Speaking of the spreading of viruses, the Stump and the female colleague were accosted in the Pondok Indah Mall (It’s an amusement to come and watch the Kaya Baru..Newly Rich flaunt themselves) when we were accosted by Indonesia’s version of the three witches.

Where are you from?

Where do you live?

Etc etc ..until our colleague was hit with the usual highly personal but inevitable ..

What religion are you?

Upon being told the answer followed the outrageous..

Why are you not wearing the Jilbab ??

To the Stump’s eternal pleasure and outright laughter..

“Because I am an Indonesian with adat (customs/traditions) not an Arab Pembantu (Maid/Servant)”

Unfortunately any pretence of civil conversation kinda declined thereafter. Where the @@@@ do these morons get the idea they have right to pry and push into others lives??

Still, after recently reviewing an old picture book of traditional Jakarta and Indonesia, one can certainly see where the current virus has certainly ripped the heart from Indonesian traditional dress and mores and replaced it with the drab and colourless dress of distant and irrelevant desert tribes. Funny you would think the vibrancy of colours and traditions would have meant the smothering of a culture would have gone the other way but there you have it. I guess the question, is will the patient ever recover and reclaim her identity? Prognosis does not seem good.

On other matters, did anyone notice the safe return of the Maid from Palestine, who was not paid for five years and made to work in appalling conditions? Yet, a large section of the Indonesian population still honestly believes that these people consider them equals. Does the term “Untermensch” ring any bells people?

A Timely Intervention

The Stump owes Desi Anwar and Jakartass a vote of thanks for adding yet another emotion evoked when the name Elvis is mentioned. Although in this case, the emotion is not one associated with Music but rather the need to burst out with a grand,gut wrenching belly laugh. Seems our local Elvis the plonker has decided that clocks lead to ruination of youth! Central Square was a ring leader in leading the local populace away from the ranting of the resident joy Nazis. Therefore, on New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day the clock face was draped in a monumental version of the Chadar.

Mmmm, the Stump wonders how far is from clock faces giving offence and the Taliban blowing up statues thousands of years old and world heritage listed. Certainly the debased logic (?) seems linked..It’s enough to make the original Elvis turn to drugs and binge eating! You really have to follow the links, read this and laugh (although if you are Indonesian, cry might be a more understandable option).

In spite of the highest concentrations of carbon dioxide in the history of civilization, world temperatures have failed to warm the past 10 years. Ocean heat content is falling. World ice concentrations (Arctic and Antarctic combined) are higher than normal.

The 2001 forecasts by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (cited by Al Gore) have failed to capture the recent cooling, as the above graph indicates, suggesting that the carbon dioxide-atmosphere connection is more complex than some initially believed. A small but growing number of scientists are becoming concerned about global cooling due to the current unusually low solar activity and other geophysical factors.

The Captain of a US Airlines plane saved the lives of 155 passengers when he managed a "perfect" water landing
on the Hudson river after his plane hit a flock of birds on take off.

"Crew interviews also confirmed reports of how the Sullenberger refused to leave his sinking plane until he was sure everyone was safe.

"He was very concerned with the count of the passengers,'' the flight crew told the NTSB, Higgins said.

"He wanted everyone accounted for. He returned to the plane a couple of times to check no one was there. The captain was the last off.''

Indonesian Ferry Captains and Crew (and other responsible for peoples safety) may wish to note the bold type above.

Speaking of the lastest ferry disaster, why isn't the Transport Minister under investigation for criminal neglect of duties? Did anyone in Indonesia believe the first reports made by transport ministry officials that the Ferry WAS safe and not overloaded? THE VICTORIA CROSS is awarded for

“ ... most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy"

"The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest military decoration awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy" to members of the armed forces, It takes precedence over all other orders, decorations and medals. It may be awarded to a person of any rank in any service and civilians under military command."

In these days of self absorbed, feathered beded child-men, the Stump wonders how many of us would be found wanting when time comes..At least there is still room for us to admire the few:

"The first Australian soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross in 40 years does not see himself as a hero.

Trooper Mark Donaldson, 29, says all soldiers are heroes.

The Special Air Service (SAS) soldier was presented the award for his rescue of a coalition forces interpreter from heavy fire in Oruzgan Province in Afghanistan in September.

He said the award was overwhelming and a great honour but it would not change who he was.

"I'm still Mark Donaldson, and we'll keep going from day to day and we'll see how we go," he told reporters after receiving the award on Friday.

"I don't see myself as a hero, honestly.

"I still see myself as a soldier first and foremost."

But Prime Minister Kevin Rudd begs to differ.

He said Trooper Donaldson had joined the list of Australian heroes.

"Generations of school children will now know of the story of Trooper Mark Donaldson," Mr Rudd said.

"It is a story of a hero, one which will be told in classrooms, workplaces and watering holes for many years to come."

"His feat under fire now becomes the stuff of Australian legend."

Trooper Donaldson, who is married and has one daughter, paid tribute to all Australian soldiers.

"Every single one of our soldiers that are there serving for the nation are heroes," he said.

The SAS soldier also became the first person to receive the Victoria Cross for Australia - the nation's highest military honour - established in 1991 to replace the Imperial VC awarded previously to 96 Australians since the Boer War in 1900.

Trooper Donaldson said he had not really thought about the danger when he went to rescue the stricken interpreter.

"I'm a soldier ... I'm trained to fight, that's what we do, it's instinct and it's natural and you don't really think about it at the time," he said.

"I just saw him there, I went over there and got him, that was it."

Trooper Donaldson said he understood the interpreter had made a full recovery.

He was touched to receive the medal, describing the ceremony as "quite emotional and quite overwhelming".

"It's very humbling and really makes you sit back and take a look at yourself."

Trooper Donaldson hopes to return to Afghanistan later this year.

He has not decided where to keep the medal, but "probably somewhere pretty safe".

Trooper Donaldson's wife says the hero has long been married to the army.

A beaming Emma Donaldson said she was proud of her husband.

"He was married to the army before he married me, and I support him all the way," she told reporters after the ceremony.

There were nervous moments being an army spouse, Ms Donaldson admitted.

"It has its moments, but I know what he's like as a person and I know the guys he works with and they train ridiculously hard all the time.

"So I have the utmost faith that they will all get back in some form or another."

When asked if she would tell her husband to be a little more careful on the battlefield in future, she laughed and said she couldn't ask that of him.

The couple, who live in Perth, have a young daughter Kaylee, who also attended Friday's ceremony.

The investiture at Government House, attended by Governor-General Quentin Bryce and the prime minister was told that on numerous occasions Trooper Donaldson deliberately drew enemy fire in order to allow wounded soldiers to be removed to safety.

"As the battle raged around him he saw that the coalition force interpreter was lying motionless on exposed ground," the governor-general's official secretary Stephen Brady told the gathering.

"With complete disregard for his own safety on his own initiative and alone, Trooper Donaldson ran back 80 metres across exposed ground to rescue the interpreter and carry him back to a vehicle.

"Trooper Donaldson then rejoined his patrol and then continued to engage the enemy while remaining exposed to heavy enemy fire."

Ms Bryce described Trooper Donaldson as an "inspiration".

"We gather around you to distinguish your actions, and to honour the individual they speak of, the person you are, your undertaking, your way of living," she said after the presentation.

"We are here to dedicate your contribution, your unconditional surrender to duty and humanity, your abandonment of your own necessity so that others may be secured."

"By your doing and knowing, you will shoulder more than most. You are the finest example and inspiration.

"Trooper Donaldson, VC, I salute you."

Defence force chief Angus Houston said Trooper Donaldson joined a band of brothers - only 10 VC winners are alive today - so admired for their valour.

"Victoria Cross recipients are at the very core of the ethos of which our military identity has been forged," Air Chief Marshal Houston said.

"We in the modern Australian Defence Force, strive to live up to the heroism, and the values of the Victoria Cross recipients that have gone before us."

In keeping with military protocol the air chief marshall saluted Trooper Donaldson.

"As the highest ranking member of the defence force, there has been no current serving member that I salute, until now," he said.

"Tradition holds that even the most senior officer will salute a Victoria Cross recipient as a mark of the utmost respect for their act of valour."

Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull said Trooper Donaldson stood in a great line of courageous soldiers who had won the Victoria Cross.

"You have been in the front line of the battle for freedom, the battle against terrorism, a battle we cannot lose and we will not lose because of brave men like you," he said.

"As the prime minister said, there is no greater honour than wearing the uniform you wear today, serving this nation, and that is why we thank you from the bottom of our heart."

REAL MEN AND WARREN SNOWDEN

In a classic display of pandering to the loons at the expense of real Australians, Warren (I wish I was on a pink Cruise)Snowden attacked one of Australia's Submarine Commanders for making the obvious trueism possible. Any wonder Australia has trouble recruiting people into the defence force when they are forced to deal with idiots and professional trough snouters like Snowden and Eva Cox.

What was the so-called evil transgression commited in fron to the alter of Political Correctness? The Honourable Commander (as opposed to the dishonourable Snowden) when asked asked by a men's magazine if "female sailors all had to be hot and had to wear bikinis, would that help recruitment?".

Feminists angered by bikini suggestions

Feminists are calling for action to be taken after an Australian Navy submarine commander suggested that women sailors in bikinis would help boost recruitment.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Commander Tom Phillips from the HMAS Farncomb was asked by a men's magazine if "female sailors all had to be hot and had to wear bikinis, would that help recruitment?".

Commander Phillips is quoted as replying: "It would certainly get the right demographic of young men in. I'm not sure how feasible it is."

Defence Minister Warren Snowden said the comments were "utterly unacceptable".

Chair of the Women's Lobby Australia, Eva Cox, said the comments reflected the "Navy's limited view of women as bodies rather than brains", the Telegraph reported.

The Stump suggests perhaps Eva Cox (nagh that's too easy) might be better squandering the taxpayers dollar with comments on things such as

Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric was quoted on Wednesday as saying it is permissible for 10-year-old girls to marry and those who think they're too young are doing the girls an injustice.

Sheik Abdul-Aziz Al Sheikh, the country's grand mufti, said during a lecture on Monday that those who say women should not marry before the age of 25 are following a "bad path," according to the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper.

Al Sheikh's comments come at a time when Saudi human rights groups have been pushing the government to put an end to marriages involving the very young and to define a minimum age for marriage. In the past few months, Saudi newspapers have highlighted several cases in which young girls were married off to much older men or very young boys.

On Sunday, the government-run Human Rights Commission condemned marriages of minor girls, saying such marriages are an "inhumane violation" and rob children of their rights.

The commission's statement followed a ruling by a court in Oneiza in central Saudi Arabia last month that dismissed a divorce petition by the mother of an eight-year-old girl whose father married her off to a man in his 50s.

Newspaper reports said the court argued that the mother did not have the right to file such a case on behalf of her daughter and said that the petition should be filed by the girl when she reaches puberty.

Responding to a question about parents who force their underage daughters to marry, the mufti said: "We hear a lot about the marriage of underage girls in the media, and we should know that Islamic law has not brought injustice to women."

"For it to be said that it's not permitted to marry off girls who are 15 and younger is wrong," Al Sheikh was quoted as saying. "A female who is 10 or 12 is marriageable and those who think she's too young are wrong and are being unfair to her."

The mufti said a good upbringing will make a girl capable of carrying out her duties as a wife.

"Our mothers and before them our grandmothers married when they were barely 12," said Al Sheikh, according to Al-Hayat.

A day after a suicide bomber killed at least 16 people, including 13 schoolchildren, in a region bordering Pakistan, a new rash of bombings shook different areas of Afghanistan on Monday, killing two civilians north of Kabul and two more in Kandahar Province.

Men inspected the wreckage of a suicide car bomb on Sunday in Khost Province, Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the bomb, which was detonated next to a school.

Several Afghan provinces have been centers of violence.

The explosion on Sunday detonated outside a local government compound in Khost Province and wounded 53, local government officials and coalition forces said. The bombing, near the border with Pakistan, occurred next to a school, and many children were among the wounded.

The Taliban fighters claimed responsibility for the attack.

Coalition forces provided a video showing about 15 children walking on the street as they were engulfed by a ball of fire. Mark Larter, a spokesman for the coalition forces, said the death toll also was based on reports of troops at the scene. Two police officers were among the dead.

Two teachers in Aceh were arrested for inviting some Muslim Students to their homes to celebrate Christmas in the fine tradition of religious tolerance and understanding so oft touted by the powers that be.

The Indonesia reputation for interesting court room decisions was once again on display with the news that an Indonesian court has acquitted a former spy of charges that he murdered Munir Thalib, an outspoken critic of the country's military, by poisoning him with arsenic while on a flight to Europe.

Meanwhile on the international front, the grand Obama experiment has developed feet of clay with the news that his previously held senate seat was up for sale as is the procedure for (apparently)the murky world of Chicago politics. The Stump looks forward to hefty belly laughs as the world's media tries to excuse their armchair ride to power they provided as more of the story comes to light.

The Middle East has erupted into violence again with HAMAS and Israel ensuring as many people as possible experience maximum suffering to start off the New Year. Indonesia’s own Islamic Fringe Groups (The Islamic Version of Lenin’s “Useful Idiots”) have been generally calling for further bloodshed and mayhem proving once again that passion and ignorance make such fine bed fellows.

Enjoying a rowdy Christmas with loved ones (although as regular readers would know it's sans any overly religious overtones unless you call the festive tree an Idol).

It is timely for the Stump to acknowledge the quiet courage and faith of Christians in Indonesia. The stump always feels a good deal of admiration for the christians, particularly the women who quietly declare their faith by wearing the cross around their necks in form of a usually simple necklace.

Despite the fact, wearing of the necklace exposes those women to harrassment by the ignorant they continue to do so and remain high in the Stump's list of people to respect.
